Saint John the Apostle School is excited to announce a brand-new opportunity for our 8th grade students—the Dissection Club! This innovative club is co-founded by two dedicated parents, Mrs. Lissette Gonzalez, Communications Coordinator at Infineum Chemical Company, and Mrs. Terri Hudak. VP of the Clinical and Educational Department at Geistlich Pharmaceuticals.
The Dissection Club is designed to provide students with a hands-on, immersive experience in understanding anatomy. Through a series of four animal dissection labs, students explore how body systems, organs, and tissues interact within real organisms. The students perform dissections on worms, starfish, frogs and fetal pigs. By combining virtual simulations with practical dissections, the club fosters both scientific inquiry and meaningful discussion.
Before each session, students are required to complete pre-lab activities to ensure they are well-prepared for the dissection. During each half-day session, students work from a detailed dissection manual, collaborate with partners, and participate in whole-group discussions to share observations and deepen their understanding. All participants are required to strictly follow the safety rules and outlined procedures during each lab. This club not only provides an exciting educational experience that bridges theory with practical application, but also emphasizes the importance of teamwork, responsibility, and rigorous scientific methodology.
This is a wonderful example of how SJA continues to provide innovative student experiences, thanks to the dedication and generosity of our volunteers who share their time and talent to inspire our students.
