On Friday, May 24, 2024, Saint John the Apostle School celebrated its much-anticipated annual Field Day, bringing together students, parents, and staff for a day of physical activities, camaraderie, and sunshine. This year’s Field Day was a resounding success, thanks to the meticulous planning and dedication of Miss Tagliareni, our physical education teacher.

The day began with students from grades 1-8 taking the traditional walk along Valley Road, from SJA to Rahway Park. The weather was perfect, with clear skies and temperatures in the high 70s. Parent volunteers welcomed the students and their appetites with a delicious breakfast around the picnic tables, energizing them for the activities ahead.

The opening ceremony featured warm-up exercises, preparing everyone for the day's events. Cooling tents and water stations were placed around the park, providing much-needed respite throughout the sunny day.

Grades 1-3 engaged in a variety of games, including parachute activities, flag tag, sharks and minnows, and free play on the playground.  The upper grades took to the track for some friendly competition, enjoyed volleyball, Capture the Flag, and other games that fostered teamwork and school spirit. A heartwarming aspect of the day was seeing students from different grade levels  bond and join in games together, creating new friendships and strengthening the sense of community within the school.

A highlight of the day was the sumptuous lunch,  prepared by our dedicated parent volunteers. The aroma of grilled food filled the air as students eagerly lined up for their favorites, including hot dogs and hamburgers, and the ever-popular chicken fingers and macaroni and cheese.

While the older students enjoyed their day at Rahway Park, our PreK and Kindergarten students had their own special field day back at school. Stations were set up outside for a variety of activities, including playground games, parachute fun, and relay races featuring the classic egg-and-spoon challenge. Ice pops and other snacks kept them nourished and cool. 

This unforgettable Field Day would not have been possible without the incredible support and hard work of our parent volunteers. Their dedication to making this event special for our students is deeply appreciated. Field Day 2024 is another testament to the joy of coming together and celebrating our SJA family.
